Town of Bedford Notes:
Bedford is located in the northeastern part of Westchester County and contains three hamlets: Bedford Hills, Beford Village and Katonah.
The Town of Bedford was originally purchased from Native American Chief Katonah (thus the Hamlet of Katonah) in 1680, The cost of acquisition included coats, blankets, wampum and cloth. Bedford was originally a part of Connecticut but became part of New York after a boundary dispute in 1700.
Bedford was the county seat of Westchester during the Revolutionary War until it was burned by the British in 1779. After the war, up until 1870, Bedford was one of two Westchester County seats (White Plains the other).
